New Netflix movie The Midnight Sky, starring George Clooney is set to become Netflix most watched show of all time.

The movie is based on the book "Good Morning, Midnight" by Lily Brooks-Dalton. Directed by George Clooney the main plot revolves around Augustine Lofthouse, a scientist searching for habitable planets around the solar system.
The story picks up 30 years later with a space station returning from one of Jupiter's moons, k-23. After a successful mission the station makes its way back to Earth only to find a catastrophic level event has all but destroyed earth and left humanity on the brink of destruction.
George Clooney's character faces a race against time to warn the station of the dangers of returning to Earth. Also starring Felicity Jones as Dr Iris "Sully" Sullivan The Midnight Sky is a brave attempt at an already saturated genre. Directed by George Clooney it has some interesting elements and isn't like your usual Sci-Fi end of the world movie.
Choosing to concentrate more on the humanity side of things rather then what actually happened to Earth to get to this point.
It's a valiant effort from Clooney and the rest of the cast, however it feels a little stale in parts with the film dragging for a good 30 minutes in the beginning.
Netflix have released numerous small scale Sci-Fi movies in the last 2 years and it seems to be a genre that it making a resurgence in Hollywood, with many movie stars choosing to tackle the genre more often.
"Ad Astra" with Brad Pitt faired pretty well and "First Man" starring Ryan Gosling was also a very good take on the genre.

In a statement released by Netflix it seems 72 million households so far have chosen to stream the movie. Not bad for a film that has a rotten tomatoes rating of only 52%.
Talking about the movie Clooney said "There's a longing in this story, It's a real need to connect, deeply connect. And there's also this conversation about what mankind is capable of doing to mankind that creeps up on you."
He added: "Even when times didn't seem as apocalyptic as they do right now, we've always liked those kind of stories."

Let's hope 2021 isn't anything like this story!
