If you didn't already know, Netflix is the biggest provider of premium content in the world...Where have you been for the last 5 years?!
However, the success of such services around the world, isn't down to the original content they have, it's mostly the technology of how it's delivered.
How many times do you sit on the train, or in the passenger seat of a car and watch a video online, or scroll endlessly on Facebook?
The use of social media is the biggest contributor of advertsing to these services. You can watch most of the services you have with your mobile phone, or ipad, without even picking up the remote.
Most TV's these days are smart TV's, meaning you can connect to the internet and use the native app provided to watch content.
Without the invention of mobile phone's, most of the things you do day to day would not be possible. Netflix spotted a gap in the market right at the start of the technology boom and jumped straight in with both feet. Making them the largest provider of TV and Film streaming in the world.
So to celebrate the huge impact Netflix have on the world...
Here's 10 facts you never knew about Netflix.
Netflix's Market value is currently $231 billion. This would mean you could buy the White House 577 times over.
Netflix actually spends more money then it brings in. Due to the aggressive expansion strategy they purchase more content each year, they are still growing as a company and until they own all of TV land, they will probably continue to make a loss.
Netflix tried to sell to Blockbuster in 2000 for $50 million. Blockbuster rejected the offer and in 2010 they ceased trading.
52 million households watched Triple Frontier in the first month of it's Netflix release. This just proves that people will watch anything if you stick it on the front page.
In 2018, Netflix content won more emmy's then HBO. Hugely surprising considering HBO is the go to service for Film studio's in the U.S.
Somebody watched Madagascar 3 352 times in 2017.......WHY?
Netflix takes up 26% of global streaming traffic. To put it into perspective, 300 streaming service's exist in the U.S alone.
2.7 million people still use the Netflix dvd rental service. I'll be honest, I only knew this existed about 2 years ago.
Only 55% of Netflix user's pay for the subscription. This makes Netflix even more impressive considering only half the people who use it, pay for it.
74% of Video on Demand user's (people with a streaming service) have a Netflix subscription. This mean's that if you saw 100 people walking around today, 74 of them would have a Netflix subscription.
All...Hail...Netflix.
